Advance news : Sharon Blackman will be here on the 13th April to teach an exclusive "gardens" appliqué course! Book now!
27th October - Felted Christmas Table Runner
Bookings now being taken - 4 places only available due to size of pieces
This table runner class is for those who have done some felting using prefelts before, but novices are welcome to come and make a smaller Christmas design, such as a table mat or Christmas drinks mats...
Access to the Snowy Creek felting machine included and tuition given if required. This saves considerably on effort! Please contact me to discuss preparation of your prefelts or ordering fleece at cost for you well in advance. Please bring own towels!!! Classes £40 each for a full day from 10 am to 3pm. Places will be secured upon payment being received.
24th November - Applique crazy patchwork Christmas stockings
This class is open to all and the extent of the stocking will depend on your ability to stop! The basic stocking will be taught in the class but you should be warned - this is totally addictive, and only the background stocking will be finished in a day! My girls always checked on Christmas morning to see what new bits had been added by Santa's elves over the past year! I would recommend that you bring fabric scraps / old clothes that have a personal meaning to you - their first proper clothes, your favourite (and sadly now past wearing!) skirt etc. Fabric scraps are available at minimal cost or you could bring some Christmassy craft cottons... This class will start you off - how far you go is up to you....
Classes £40 for 10am - 3pm. Your place will be secure upon payment.
REGULAR WEEKLY CLASSES

Small classes : beginners
£10 weekly payable as a half term booking, or £15/week paid weekly
A gentle introduction to dressmaking in small classes, covering all aspects from measuring yourself and pattern alterations to completing all basic forms of garment, from skirts and tops to trousers and jackets. An ability to use your own machine is required ( please see the sew and craft class if an introduction to the machine is required). You will provide your patterns and fabric but general items such as draft pattern paper or calico available at cost. Maximum 5 people per class to ensure close attention, minimum 2 people. It is easier if you start the course from the beginning and work right through, but if preferred, you can come half termly and just make the item being covered in that half term.
CHRISTMAS TERM -1 skirt, 2 top
EASTER TERM - 1 shirt, 2 dress
SUMMER TERM - 1 jacket, 2 trouser
Each item is at beginners level, but pattern alterations and more compicated patterns are covered to enable you to move to the next step.
Sew and Craft Class
Tuesday evening 6-8 pm
£10 payable weekly or £7/ week payable in advance as a half term booking
A fun and gentle introduction to many different techniques, including hand embroidery and stitch, use of sewing machines, felting, decoupage, soap, candle and paper making, with the general aim of everyone making together their own version of the (usually) weekly project, whether seasonal, home or personal items such as jewellry, scarves or cards. You provide your chosen materials or buy them at cost from the class. Maximum 10 people, minimum 5 people.
New class starting September 2018 for complete novices who would like to learn simple skills and relax for a couple of hours.
Twixt' Time and Tide Textiles Class
2-4 pm Tuesdays
£15/week or £10/ week payable as a half term booking
This group is for those who are already confident in both their knowledge of sewing skills and in the use of creative textiles, and its members work on longer and more personalised projects, using a different textile skills set each half term. We build on skills learnt in the Sew and Craft Class and elsewhere, and often learn from each other. We may practise a technique in greater depth following a visit by an outside artist, or practise a technique made popular by a particular person, putting our own slant on it. Please phone me to discuss applications to this group prior to visiting on 07712 420100.
Beginners' home furnishings course
10-12 am Tuesdays
£15 weekly or £10 /week payable in advance as a half term booking
A course to enable you, as a complete beginner, to save a significant sum on the making of your choice and design of soft furnishings by enabling you to make them yourself. This will give you the ability to make items from a simple flap cushion to interlined curtains, shaped pelmets, roman blinds or covering a stool. Some work will require basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine. Maximum 10 people, minimum 5 people. Call me to discuss your requirements.
Childrens' After School Sewing Skills
Mondays 3.30-5.00 pm - Dressmaking and sewing skills
£10/weekly payable half termly in advance
A fun easy way to learn to sew. Projects will be in easy stages, but will lead to basic competence on a sewing machine and an ability to achieve independence on the sewing machine, from making their own easy - sew clothes to cards, jewellry and other projects. Sewing machines could be provided and all materials required will be easily available from local shops or provided at cost or free. This could be the start of the next Haute Couture designer! Please feel free to ring me for advice re machines should you be thinking of buying a machine in advance as many children's / "easy" machines are not man-enough for the job and can lead to much frustration!! For children from 8yrs -11yrs.
I LOVE TO TEACH WORKSHOPS AT OTHER VENUES FOR BOTH CHILDREN AND ADULTS, INCLUDING BIRTHDAY PARTIES, FELTING AND TEXTILE PROJECTS IN SCHOOLS AND APPROPRIATE WORKSHOPS AT RETIREMENT HOMES OR SPECIAL NEEDS VENUES. ALSO SPECIALIST PROJECT CLASSES CAN BE TAILORED TO SUIT A PARTICULAR EVENT OR GROUP.
